Specialist Surgery Services and Rehabilitation
Why Us?
Unique features of Cedar Mountain
Vet Referral
We are surgery and rehabilitation referral only: On site surgery and rehabilitation for continuity to optimal recovery
Patients who have had surgery will receive complementary rehabilitation exercise during 24 hours of hospitalisation supervised by a certified rehabilitation veterinarian. Immediately post-surgery, a patient will be placed on PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) mattress that creates magnetic field and reduces surgical pain. Shockwave therapy will encourage bone healing of osteotomy or fracture site, and patellar ligament thickening will be reduced in case of arthroscopy or arthrotomy of the stifle joint (unless contraindicated). Osteoarthritis can be controlled by shockwave and laser therapies.
In the case of spinal surgery, a patient will receive PEMF matt during recovery, but also TENS/NMES to reduce spinal pain, extensive therapeutic massage and manual therapy to encourage neuromotor functional recovery.
Nonsurgical spinal patients also receive the benefit of rehabilitation and all the modalities described above. Extensive rehabilitation will accelerate the recovery.
We are equipped with underwater treadmills. This modality provides increased energy output and muscle rebuilding by water resistance without heavy body weight to harm the patient’s joint/bone/spine.
A wide range of manual therapy will provide exercise for pets. We also provide an individual extensive program for particular patients, handouts and online video access to watch how to perform particular exercises at home.
Complementary free shockwave therapy (immediately postoperatively) and Laser treatment (next day) in hospital surgical patient unless contraindicated
For example, TPLO patient will receive shockwave therapy immediately postoperatively (enhance osteotomy healing and decrease chance of patellar ligament desmitis) and Laser treatment one day postoperatively (next day) to encourage wound healing and management of osteoarthritis
We have a European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA) residency trained anaesthetist
Extensive local analgesics (nerve block) to reduce the dose of general anaesthesia
Better recovery
Less harm for the patient
Particularly useful in liver/kidney compromised and/or geriatric patients
24-hour on site dedicated patient care
Monday morning to Friday afternoon
We perform spinal surgeries
If your pet already has a diagnosis by advanced imaging (preferably MRI) somewhere else, we are happy to perform surgery, rehabilitation and hospitalisation during recovery on site.
Nonsurgical treatment of osteoarthritis
Did you know that we can help with osteoarthritis treated unsuccessfully with medical treatment? Patients who have kidney disease so that your pets can’t have nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)?
Pain clinic treatment is offered. We have experienced analgesia management in conjunction with surgery and sports medicine input.
We can help without NSAIDs. Shockwave and laser treatment as well as manual therapy, PEMF, NMES, and hydrotherapy will help your pets to strengthen their muscle and improve joint mobility without or minimal medications. We also offer intra-articular injections (e.g., PRP, cortisone, iPAAG)
Nonhealing wound
Did you know that we can help with nonhealing wound previously treated with unsuccessful antibiotics and open wound management?
We offer surgical reconstruction using skin flap and free graft.
Extracorporeal shockwave and laser therapies are proven to be effective to treat chronic non-healing wounds.
Shockwave vs Laser, which is better?
The answer is shockwave in general, but it depends on the condition and location, laser may be preferrable in certain situations (e.g., digits). Synergic effects are obtained by using both modalities and benefit of using both modalities for many occasions.
Clients can decide if they want to continue with rehabilitation onsite with various programs.
